Common skincare mistakes
Have you guys had a bad experience from using a skincare products? Well, I used to be one of them too and guess what, most of the time it is not because the skincare products are bad. But instead, it is because of you are not using it the right way. So today, I am going to expose some of the most common skincare mistakes that many of us are doing and hopefully after this you guys can get it right ok?
COMMON SKINCARE MISTAKES
1. USING TOO MANY PRODUCTS AT THE SAME TIME
- I understand many of you are looking for a quick and effective solution to your skin concern and you might think the more products you use will give you a better result, right? Well, you are totally wrong there. You don’t have to use a bunch of skincare products to get clear healthy skin, most importantly is to use the right ones. When you use too many products on the skin, it may increase risk of irritation and may end up clogging up your pores and cause breakouts. Keep your skincare routine simple starting with the basic steps which are cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen. Then, you can add on a treatment regime in the form of serum/medicated cream to target your concern. If you want to add on more products in the routine, add 1 at a time so that you can evaluate the how the products fits into your routine.
2. CHANGE SKIN PRODUCTS TOO FREQUENT
- Majority of us do not have the patience to wait for a significant visible result hence we tend to change our skincare products too often. I hate to break this down to you but most of the skincare products take time to work especially if you want to see improvement in your acne clearance, fading hyperpigmentation, reduce pore size and wrinkles. Give at least 6-8 weeks to see significant improvement. Be patient and be consistent with your routine. Seeing results from your skincare products are like a marathon, not a sprint. 3. OVEREXFOLIATING
- EXFOLIATION IS THE KEY TO ACHIEVE HEALTHY and GLOWING COMPLEXION but over exfoliating can be damaging to the skin barrier. Many have walked in to my clinic with signs of irritation from using harsh skincare products and over exfoliating their skin. When it comes to exfoliation, there are many aspects to be considered ( more about this soon ) but to begin with, start by incorporating exfoliating products 1-2x a week and build up as necessary.
4. WASHING FACE TOO FREQUENT
- Some may think by washing face more frequently, you can get rid of the excessive oil and impurities more effectively. But guys, this is a very wrong and bad information. WASHING your FACE TOO FREQUENT WILL ONLY STRIP THE SKIN OF ITS NATURAL oils and MOISTURIZERS. YOU WILL only END UP WITH A DRY AND WEAKENED SKIN BARRIER especially IF YOU HAVE dry, SENSITIVE SKIN. It is Advisable TO WASH TWICE A DAY with a gentle non-irritating cleanser AND also AFTER EXCESSIVE SWEATING.
5. FOLLOW TREND INSTEAD OF WHAT YOUR SKIN REALLY NEEDS
- It is very easy to get caught in the latest hype or trend when it comes to skincare but you should know that not everything may suit your skin. First, you need to UNDERSTAND YOUR SKIN and address what’s your skin concern. Then, identify which skincare ingredients works best to help with your skin concern. Choosing active ingredients in skincare should be suited to your skin type as well as there are many forms and concentration of active ingredients in the market. If you are not sure, always seek advice from a skin experts. Our skin is very unique individually hence our skincare routine should be that way too.
Since you are already aware of the common skincare mistakes above, I do hope you avoid making them in the future. As I said earlier, to find the best skincare products and regime may require some trial and error but getting the right information should be the first step in your healthy skin journey.
